Recently named one of the twenty prettiest towns in Spain, La Orotava once formed part of the old Menceyate of Taoro, one of the nine native kingdoms into which the island was divided until the conquest of 1496. The historical quarter, which has been declared a Monument of National Historical and Artistic Interest, is well worth a leisurely visit, on which you can appreciate the different styles of architecture.
- Exit the airport, keeping in the right hand lane, following the signs for Santa Cruz- - TF. - Filter onto the TF-1 giving way to traffic from the left.
- Take Exit 6A-B signposted Sta. Maria del Mar /Añaza. Ignore the first turning for Añaza and Centro Commercial and take the second turning signposted Aeropuerto Norte/La Laguna - TF-2.
- When approaching exit 6A-B there are often tailbacks, so as you approach this exit (shortly after Radazul) keep in the right hand lane and be prepared to move over to the hard shoulder.
- Follow the road across the bridge (crossing the motorway you have just left) and at the next roundabout take the first exit, you will then be going uphill.
- Keep on this road for approximately 4.3 km. When you pass IKEA furniture store (on your left) move over to the left hand lane following the signs for La Laguna/Puerto de la Cruz TF-5.
- Take the tunnel sign posted La Laguna/Puerto de la Cruz and filter onto the TF-5. Keep in the lanes signposted Aeropuerto Norte/Puerto de la Cruz for approximately 35 km.
- Leave this highway at exit ( salida) 33 and follow the sign La Orotava, P.N. del Teide uphill.
- In the entrance of the town La Orotava you can see a fountain on the left. Follow the street uphill and turn right at the first possibility.
- Follow this street, which bends a little bit to the left and leads directly to the historical part of the town. The street changes to a cobblestone pavement street.
- Pass the city hall, follow the street which bends a little bit to the left. There you will find a big house with some balconies (Casa de los Balcones).
- Here turn left at the first possibility in to a small street, its called Calle Hermano Apolinar.
- In 50 metres you will find the Hotel Victoria on the left side, house number 8.
